How to apply

Before you apply for an HCI Foundation bursary you will need to:

  • Check the selection criteria to ensure you are eligible for a bursary.  
  • Have applied to a University, University of Technology, or FET College and received a student number.  
  • Have all your personal and family information. You will also need details of your proposed study, parent’s employment details, and community involvement information.  
  • Have scanned all your supporting documents onto the computeryou are using, or ensure you are able to scan all your supporting documents during the application process.
  • Have a valid email address

Online Application Process for an HCI Foundation bursary:

There are 6 steps you will need to complete:

  1. Log In (or Register)

    If you have applied before, you must login with your existing username and password. Login Here
    If you are a new applicant you must register. Register Here

  2. Complete the application form

    There are 5 sections that you will be required to complete on the application form:

    • Personal details
    • Family details
    • Details of proposed study for the upcoming year
    • Parent’s employment information
    • Community involvement

    At each section in the application process, you are able to save your application form, and return to it at a later stage to complete it. 

  3. Upload your scanned documents to the application form

  4. Submit the application form

    You must submit your application by 18 October.

  5. Send your original documents to us by post
    • We require original copies of all supporting documents posted to us.  
    • The original supporting documents must reach our offices by 30 November.
    • If you are studying at a University or FET College during the year, then a member of staff at your institution must send us your results. They must to send us your full results, along with your student number.
    • If you are not yet at a University or FET College, then you must send us a certified copy of your official Matric results
    • If we do not receive your final data by 16 January, then your application will be rejected.
    • We must receive confirmation of your final results and admittance into your chosen institution by 16 January.
  6. Check your email and post
    • Wait for us to check the application form.
    • Once we've reviewed the application, we will send you a notification to tell you whether you've met our criteria or not.
    • If you do NOT meet the criteria, then your bursary application will be rejected.
    • If you do meet the criteria, then your bursary application will go into a pending state.
    • We make our final selection and notify you whether you have received an HCI Foundation bursary on 07 March.
    • If you are awarded a bursary, the HCI Foundation will contact the institution on your behalf and pay your bursary amount directly to the institution.
